"The Clinical Relevance of Negative Capability”
CHRIS MAWSON
Friday evening, May 6, 2016
Chris Mawson will present material to illustrate and demonstrate the clinical relevance of Bion’s use of John Keat’s concept of Negative Capability. He will show how the concept relates to Freud’s original technical recommendations for the maintenance of a psychoanalytic attitude, to its roots not only in Freud, but also in contemplative thinking – in theology and the creative arts – and to the later, and often misunderstood, formulations of Bion’s, to which he gave the name “O”.
Chris Mawson is a Training and Supervising Analyst of the British Psychoanalytical Society, and works in full-time private analytic practice. He is the Editor of The Complete Works of W.R. Bion (2014), Karnac Books, and Bion Today (2010) in the New Library of Psychoanalysis series, Routledge Press.
